Performing Under Pressure: Lessons from Everest, the South Pole, and the World’s Most Brutal Environments
Alex Harris has spent 30 years leading expeditions across the world’s most extreme terrain – Everest, an unassisted crossing to the South Pole, the Empty Quarter desert and 30 years building and letting go of businesses along the way.
In this session, Alex draws on lessons from both worlds to explore what it actually takes to perform, decide, and lead when the stakes are real and the plan runs out.
Expect a candid, story-driven conversation on pressure, decision-making, and resilience for leaders navigating their own uncertain terrain.
Alex Harris is a Mental Wellness and Resilience expert, keynote speaker, and Human Potential coach with a 30-year career built on extreme adventure and human performance. Holding a degree in Sport Psychology, he draws on decades of expedition experience to deliver insight on resilience, leadership, and achievement for senior leaders navigating pressure, uncertainty, and high-stakes decisions.
In 1996 he left a career in sales to lead his first expedition to Mount Everest, going on to complete the Seven Summits and lead more than 40 expeditions across all seven continents. He led the first unsupported crossing of Arabia’s Empty Quarter and completed an unsupported expedition to the South Pole, experiences that mirror the isolation and judgment calls executives face at the top of their organizations.
He founded The Munga, one of the world’s toughest ultra-endurance cycling races, translating the same discipline into lessons on building resilient teams and sustaining performance under pressure.
